PHOENIXImprints of Honor, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to connecting students with veterans to honor veterans, preserve America’s heritage, and develop future leaders, has announced its fiscal-year 2026 Board of Directors and Officers.

Board members include Eric Spencer, Kerry Ahern, Alfredo Luna, Winslow Schmelling, Kelly Cooper, Brad Gronek, COL Ret. Beth Johnson, Justin Layman, Kelly Mills, Javier Rodriguez and Mitch Wentzel.

Among the board are seven veterans, an Imprints of Honor alumna, an Imprints of Honor alumna parent, a Gold Star Spouse as well as business executives from TriWest Healthcare, Wells Fargo, Salt River Project, Igility, Snell & Welmer LLP, Bank of America, Cooper Legacy Group and Arouet Capital.

“We welcome and are thankful for our new and returning board members,” said Michelle DiMuro, Imprints of Honor Executive Director. “Their diverse background and breadth of expertise will create new opportunities and result in a real impact for the individuals and communities we serve.”

The board of 11 is led by newly elected Board President, Eric Spencer, a partner of Snell & Wilmer LLP, who joined the Imprints of Honor Board of Directors in 2023. Spencer began his professional career as an infantry officer with the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain following a 12-month tour of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among other awards and decorations, Spencer was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge after having led nearly 250 combat missions and patrols in southeast Baghdad in 2006. He currently serves as a Field Forces recruiting/admissions officer for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Spencer is joined by his fellow Board officers:

Kerry Ahern is the Resource Planning Leader with Bank of America, responsible for resource and capacity planning for the Consumer Credit Assistance organization. Ahern joined the Board of Directors for Imprints of Honor in June 2020, after his daughter graduated from the program, and currently serves as Board Vice President. The Ahern Family regularly volunteers in their community and supports organizations such as Wild at Heart Raptor Rescue and the Vitalant Blood Bank. 

Winslow Schmelling teaches creative writing and literature at Arizona State University and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing. She joined the Board of Directors in 2024 and currently serves as the Board Secretary. As a freelance writer, she has produced content for B2B publications and journals across technology, medical, manufacturing, financial, and aerospace sectors. Schmelling is an alumna of Imprints of Honor, having participated in the program in high school during its founding years.

Alfredo Luna has been with Wells Fargo since 2003 and is a District Senior Manager in Arizona. Luna joined the Board of Directors for Imprints of Honor in 2023 and currently serves as the Board Treasurer. Prior to his time at Wells Fargo, Luna served as a Multisystem Transmission Systems Operator in the Unites States Army. He retired from the United States Army as a First Sergeant in 2023 after 25 years of service.

Spencer and DiMuro are pleased to welcome three new Board Directors.


Kelly Cooper has dedicated his life to service—first in the United States Marine Corps, then through entrepreneurship, public service, and financial planning. Cooper joined the Imprints of Honor Board of Directors in May 2025. With multiple deployments around the globe, Cooper’s military experience instilled in him a deep sense of duty, discipline, and resilience. After the military, he became a successful multi-business owner and founded Cooper Legacy Financial, where he helped families and business owners build secure futures and lasting legacies.

Justin Layman is the founder and managing partner of Arouet Capital, a commercial and small business financing and advisory company; he also serves as managing partner for DebitFire, a bookkeeping, payroll and tax services company. In addition to joining Imprints of Honor’s Board of Directors in May 2025, Layman serves on the board of directors of the Scottsdale Chamber, serves as a Veterans Advisory Commissioner for the city of Scottsdale, and serves on the board of directors of Scottsdale Leadership as treasurer. He served six years in the US Army Reserve as a Psychological Operations specialist with combat deployments to Bosnia and Iraq.

Kelly Mills is the Director of Community Relations at TriWest Healthcare Alliance, where she supports military and veteran communities to ensure they receive high-quality, community-based healthcare. Mills joined the Imprints of Honor Board of Directors in May 2025. For nearly a decade, Mills served as Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s Director of Military and Veteran Outreach and was instrumental in establishing the Military and Veteran Success Center at Luke Air Force Base, where she served as Program Manager. As a Gold Star spouse, Mills brings personal insight into the unique challenges faced by military families, fueling her unwavering commitment to those who serve. Her leadership and advocacy have been recognized with the Copper Sword Award from the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society, the inaugural Mark Ashby Memorial Service Award from the Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce, and the National Achievement Medal from Vietnam Veterans of America.
