Interviews

body text

Students have the opportunity to learn history, from WWII to recent conflicts, first-hand from a veteran.  Chapter students conduct and video record veteran interviews, and write and edit veteran's stories in preparation for publication. The completed story is an approved activity for the Seal of Civics Literacy.

Preserving veterans' stories in America’s national library further honors each veteran. In addition, future generations can listen to the story and learn from the lessons our students were able to hear first-hand.

Participation Fee
Chapter schools are asked to budget $200 per published interview as a participation fee to help support publishing costs.  As a Character Education program approved by the Arizona Department of Education, schools can generate participation funds through Arizona tax credits.

To encourage growth without an undo cost burden on our schools, all participation fees for alumni students, new chapters, and chapters in Title 1 schools are supported by grants and donations.

For existing chapters who exceed minimum standards of 5 interviews for middle schools and 15 interviews for high schools, any interviews over and above these minimums are also supported through grants and donations.
