Spencer
Veteran Perspective
During Operation Iraq Freedom, Eric Spencer served as an U.S. Army infantry officer, leading nearly 250 combat missions and patrols in southeast Baghdad in 2006. Eric achieved the rank of Captain, and earned the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. Eric currently is a partner at Snell & Wilmer LLP, serves as a Field Forces recruiting/admissions officer for West Point and is Board President of Imprints of Honor.

Teacher Perspective
D.J. Salch is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, an English teacher at Sunrise Mountain High School, and our 2025 Teacher of the Year. DJ leads a very active IOH Chapter, has hosted school-wide speaker series events, live-streamed for all schools in the Peoria Unified School District, and encourages his students to further engage with the veteran community through volunteer projects and participation in civic activities.
