With activities in the classroom and beyond, our program helps develop student character while engaging local communities. Learn about the engaging and impactful ways Imprints of Honor works for students.
Students have the opportunity to learn history, from WWII to recent conflicts, first-hand from a veteran. Chapter students conduct and video record veteran interviews, and write and edit veteran's stories in preparation for publication. The completed story is an approved activity for the Seal of Civics Literacy.
High school students have the option to learn Adobe InDesign and Photoshop software to lay out their stories for publication. Imprints of Honor provides training and host work days for students to complete and assemble all elements of our hardbound book, Since You Asked™ (SYA). Student becomes published authors!
At the end of each school year, we work with student committees to organize regional Community Reception & Book Signing events to honor their veteran partners and present the completed SYA book for signing. Participating students, veterans and teachers each receive a free book, and they are sold to the public.
Preserving veterans' stories in America’s national library further honors each veteran. In addition, future generations can listen to the story and learn from the lessons our students were able to hear first-hand.
Participating in civic events enriches the connection with veterans. Students celebrate Veterans Day and Memorial Day, as well as engage in opportunities to connect with local service groups, plan school assemblies with veteran speakers, or explore field trips to historical sites.
